JASMINE RIVERA is a Co-Executive Director for Rising Voices, a nonprofit that organizes the leadership of Asian American women and families in Michigan. Born in Detroit to an immigrant Filipino-American family, she was raised by her activist parents to always engage in action and speak truth to power. Jasmine graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in International Relations at James Madison College and from Columbia University with an MFA in Film Directing. In addition to her decades of social justice advocacy work, Jasmine is also an award-winning writer and director for theatre and film, was a Professional Media Fellow at the United Nations, a Detroit Sundance Screenwriters Lab Fellow and 2014 Kresge Arts Fellow.
