This session will explore challenges, gaps and opportunities to advance more progressive political agendas in the states via concerted investment in electoral transition planning, training and co-governance. Major investments are regularly made to support electoral campaigns and legislative efforts, but there is minimal support for candidates and communities to effectively navigate the transition from candidate to elected officeholder. Transition planning presents an opportunity to train leaders, establish competent executive offices, and engage communities in laying the groundwork for a sustainable and effective co-governance process. This session will draw from recent research funded by Committee on States to better understand how communities can engage in co-governance as a means to ensure that progressive electoral victories result in lasting and impactful outcomes for voters.
