Julia Beatty is the Director of the Black-Led Movement Fund at Borealis Philanthropy where she leads all aspects of fundraising, participatory grantmaking and program strategy for the Fund, which has granted more than $30 million dollars to Black-led social justice organizations since 2016.
Julia brings an extensive background in community organizing, racial justice policy advocacy and donor organizing within social justice philanthropy to her role at Borealis. Before leading the Black-Led Movement Fund, Julia worked with national policy organizations to build the organizational and leadership capacity necessary to create and sustain change led by communities of color. She is a former Director of Grants and Evaluation with the W. Haywood Burns Institute, a national training intermediary that aims to eliminate structural racism within youth justice systems. She has also worked as the Leadership and Training Manager for the Center for Social Inclusion/Race Forward to deepen the structural racism analysis of policy advocates and assist them in crafting racially equitable policy strategies on infrastructure issues critical to communities of color. Julia’s organizing roots lie in the labor and student movements of the early aughts while first on staff and then serving as a board leader with National Jobs with Justice and the United States Student Association.
Julia holds a Masters in Public Administration from New York University and a Journalism degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
