Speaker Bio
Vivian Chang is an Advisor for the Susan Sandler Fund, a national multi-million dollar fund dedicated to
advancing racial justice through increasing the power and influence of historically marginalized
communities of color. She also leads Democratizing Philanthropy Project, which shifts power to
movement and frontline organizations by helping them build long term reliable small donor revenue.
As the daughter of immigrant parents, Vivian viscerally understands the structures and culture that
pushes people and communities to the margins. She has dedicated her life to building progressive
power that will change those structures and enable low income communities of color to advance a more
just world. She has led campaigns that have resulted in groundbreaking community benefits
agreements and health protections for low income immigrant workers. In philanthropy, she has
directed millions of dollars to strengthen the democratic structures that enable communities to have
powerful voices in city hall, at the state capitol, at the ballot box.
Among her honors, Vivian was recognized as a Catalyst of Change in the 2023 Community Change
Champions Awards; profiled in Dorka Keen's book Eco Amazons: 20 Women Who are Transforming the
World; awarded Oakland's Women of Greatness Award.
Vivian previously served as Vice President of Community Investments at the East Bay Community
Foundation, Director of State and Local Policies at Green For All, Executive Director of Asian Pacific
Environmental Network, Co-Founder of Oakland Rising. She currently serves on the board of
Community Change Action.
